VYPE: What position(s) do you play, and which do you feel most confident in?
Fontella Colbert: I play right field, center field, and left field, but I feel most confident in right and center. It just feels more natural to me.
VYPE: How long have you been playing softball, and what first got you interested in the sport?
FC: I started playing softball in middle school. My friends encouraged me to join, so I gave it a try.
VYPE: What’s one skill you’ve worked hardest to improve, and how has it changed your game?

VYPE: What do you think sets you apart from other players on the field?
FC: I never doubt myself. When I’m in the game, I have a one-track mind and I’m always telling myself, “you’ve got this.”

VYPE: What has been your proudest moment in softball so far?
FC: I’m proud of how far I’ve come overall.
VYPE: How would your teammates describe you both on and off the field?
FC: My teammates would describe me as the funniest one on the team. I’m always positive and nice.
VYPE: What role do you usually take on within your team (leader, motivator, energy, etc.)?
FC: I’m a little bit of everything — I bring energy, encouragement, and reassurance.
VYPE: Who is someone that has had a big impact on your softball journey, and why?
FC: Coach Morgan has had a huge impact on my journey. She coached me from when I didn’t know anything and never gave up on me, always encouraging me every step of the way.
VYPE: What goals have you set for yourself this season?
FC: My goal is to be a threat to anyone I face — the kind of player coaches warn their team about.
