Raymi Robinson didn’t start playing softball until high school, but the senior has grown into a steady and versatile presence for her team.
Robinson plays catcher in fast-pitch and second base in slow-pitch softball, with catching becoming her most confident position after she began learning the role the summer before her junior year. Since then, she has handled the majority of innings behind the plate and taken on the responsibility that comes with it.
Her introduction to the sport came through friends in FFA who invited her to attend a practice. What started as a simple decision quickly turned into something she grew to love.
“My friends talked me into coming to practice one day, and from there on out I loved it,” Robinson said.
One of her biggest adjustments came at the plate when she made the switch from batting right-handed to left-handed as a sophomore, despite being naturally right-handed. The change required time and repetition, but she committed to it in order to better help her team.
“I’ve taken a lot of time to be successful on the left side for my team and coach,” she said.
Her junior season included a major milestone when she hit her first home run. However, her progress was challenged over Thanksgiving break when she underwent a surgery that required a six-week recovery. Returning to the field left her feeling behind, especially as she entered her final season.
“I was unsatisfied with myself, especially since it was my final high school softball season,” she said.
Rather than letting that setback define her, Robinson returned gradually, rebuilding strength and trusting the process as she returned to full competition.
On the field, she is known for her energy and positive attitude. Teammates describe her as a supportive, vocal leader who often takes on a “team-mom” role, helping keep spirits high and offering encouragement in any way she can.
Before games, Robinson follows a routine that includes a good meal, music and prayer. She also credits her coach for helping her adjust to changes and stay confident throughout her career.
As her senior season winds down, Robinson remains focused on finishing strong and being a consistent presence for her team, both on and off the field.
