Idabel’s Makensie Cravens
Makensie Cravens has spent most of her life on a softball field, developing into a versatile utility player who can fill any role her team needs. While she is capable across the field, she feels most confident at shortstop, where quick reactions and steady communication define her game. Her journey began at age five after playing in her first game, an experience she says made everything click.
Her focus now is improving her batting average and building strength. “I’ve been focused on trying to have a better batting average this year,” Cravens said, adding that she is also working on strength training to elevate her performance. She has also added value as a switch hitter, giving her team flexibility in the lineup.
On the field, her mindset is simple. “I show up no matter what. When I am on the field everything leaves my mind. I play because I love the game,” she said. That consistency has helped her push through injuries and moments when she struggled to feel the same passion for the sport.
Cravens says teammates see her as funny, competitive, hardworking, and supportive. She takes pride in being a leader and motivator, making sure everyone is ready to work and reminding them they are capable of more than they think. “I just make sure I’m in a good mood and have a good attitude, because if you’re not it can bring your team down,” she said.

Faith and preparation guide her through pressure moments. She relies on Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Before games, she focuses on hydration, nutrition, and music to stay locked in.
Cravens acknowledges Coach Kenny Richardson, who “always believes in you no matter what,” along with her mother for shaping her journey. Her goals are to reach a championship, stay healthy, and enjoy every moment. Her advice to younger players is simple: stay confident, work hard, and never give up.
She also hopes to set an example for younger athletes in her program by showing that effort and attitude matter just as much as talent, especially when facing adversity and long seasons.
