Valliant’s Ryker Prince – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

A three-year starter turning heads, Valliant junior Ryker Prince brings speed and versatility to the Bulldogs across multiple sports.

“I play football, where I have been a three-year starter at slot receiver and defensive back; and I am currently being recruited for football,” Prince said. “I also partake in powerlifting and track!”

Early success defines some of his proudest moments. “An accomplishment I am most proud is being all district WR every year, and breaking the school’s records my freshman year,” he said.

Those experiences have shaped his character and outlook. “Playing football has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to handle pressure — but it’s also taught me to trust God through every high and low,” Prince said. “Whether I’m winning or learning from a loss, football reminds me to stay humble, grateful, and rely on God’s strength, not just my own.”

One coach stands out above the rest. “My favorite teacher is coach Allensworth because he always pushes me to be my best, both on and off the field,” he said. “He believes in me, motivates me, and teaches lessons that go beyond sports.”

Family roots run deep for inspiration. “My papa Wayne inspires me because he’s the hardest worker I know,” Prince said. “He’s always shown me what dedication looks like, and he motivates me to work hard and never give up.” A teammate’s example also motivates. “The teammate who has left the biggest impression on me is Jakobi because he always showed up ready to work and motivated me to push myself every day,” he said.

Wearing Valliant colors carries real meaning. “My favorite part about representing my high school as an athlete is knowing I’m playing for something bigger than myself,” Prince said. “I get to make my school proud, inspire younger players, and show what hard work and dedication look like.”

A coach’s words stick with him. “The best advice I’ve received was from a coach who told me to go in with the mindset that ‘this won’t run without me,’” he said. “It taught me to take responsibility, give full effort, and take pride in my role.”

Gratitude shapes his perspective. “I would like to thank God for putting me in the position I’m in with the great support group I have,” Prince said. “I would like to thank my parents for always supporting me through any decision I make.”

He looks to a current NFL star. “I look up to Amon-Ra St. Brown because he talks openly about his faith in God and shows incredible work ethic and discipline,” he said. “He stays focused, humble, and carries himself the right way on and off the field.”
