Sophomore Aniya Pigg brings size and intensity to the Valliant Lady Bulldogs as their power forward in the paint.
Her first year on varsity delivered a milestone she will always remember. “Having my first double double as a freshman,” she said.
Those court battles have taught her lessons that reach far beyond basketball. “It taught me that if you have a fog, you will never be able to go where you want because you are distracted,” Pigg said. Staying locked in mentally has become a guiding principle for her both in games and every day.
One teacher has earned a special place in her heart. “Mrs. Tapp is my favorite teacher because she is caring and is like a second mom to me,” she said.
A coach keeps her confidence high. “Someone that inspires me is my coach Patrick Nix he is always telling me to be confident, and he helps us think mental to get where we want,” Pigg said. A former teammate showed her what extra effort looks like. “My old senior Brailegih because she was always helping me get better, we would go up go the gym and shoot around,” she said.
The energy from young fans fuels her on game nights. “Seeing the little kids in the stands and them cheering us on and giving us high fives,” Pigg said of her favorite part about representing Valliant High School.
Clear advice keeps her grounded. “To want something you have to work hard for it,” she said.
Family remains her rock through every step. “I want to think my mom for supporting me and always being there,” Pigg said.
A college superstar sets her standard on the court. “The professional athlete that I look up to is Paige Bueckers; she is so good at basketball,” she said.
