Junior multi-sport standout Colby Brown has become a key piece of the Coalgate program, leading from multiple positions on both the gridiron and the baseball diamond.
“Football – QB and CB. Baseball – shortstop,” Brown said.
For a season now ending, one memory stands above the rest. “Winning season with the team” is the accomplishment he is most proud of, he said.
Sports, he added, have shaped how he handles failure and focus. “Staying humble and focusing on what is at task” is what his time in athletics has taught him, Brown said.
In the classroom, one coach has made a lasting impression. “Coach Cagle – computers,” he said when asked about his favorite teacher.

At home, two family members drive him hardest. “My dad and brother” are who inspire him, Brown said. “They push me to keep going and keep working hard.”
Among teammates, one left a strong mark on how he leads. “Zeak Marlow – he was a leader and made sure everyone was focused,” he said. “He always kept the team accountable and that’s something I’ve tried to learn from.”
Brown said wearing Coalgate across his chest is about more than stats. “Winning and making the school look good and prove that Coalgate can win” is his favorite part about representing his high school as an athlete, he said.
One line of advice has helped him move past mistakes. “Don’t worry about your mess ups focus on the future,” Brown said.
He is quick to thank the adults behind the scenes. “Thank you for all the coaches and staff that helps the athletes and school to be better,” he said.
On the pro level, one Oklahoma quarterback stands out. “Baker Mayfield,” Brown said. “He’s the kind of guy who plays with confidence and doesn’t back down from anything.”
