Q&A with Ada’s Jadyce Burns – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Whataburger

VYPE: What grade are you in and what track events do you compete in?
JB: I am a sophomore and I run the 4×100 and 4×200 relays, and the 100- and 200- meter dash.

VYPE: How long have you been involved in track and field?
JB: I joined track in the fifth grade and have been running ever since.

VYPE: What originally motivated you to join track?
JB: I liked track when I first tried it, so I just kept running.

VYPE: What does a typical training week look like for you?
JB: On Mondays we always do a tough workout. Tuesday we lift and typically run 150s, but it can change. Wednesdays are a good but easier workout day, and on Thursdays we lift again and get prepared for track meets on Friday.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare before a race or event?
JB: Before I run, I think about crossing the finish line and I pick people in my heat that I want to beat.

VYPE: What has been your biggest challenge as a track athlete?
JB: My biggest challenge was running at the state track meet last year as a freshman because it was my first time and I felt like I needed to prove myself.

VYPE: How do you respond when a performance doesn’t go as planned?
JB: I use it as motivation to improve and focus on what I need to fix for the next race.

VYPE: What personal or team goal are you working toward this season?
JB: I want to improve my times and help my relay teams succeed at meets.

VYPE: What is one accomplishment you are most proud of in track?
JB: Making it to the state meet as a freshman is something I am really proud of.
