VYPE: What sports and positions do you play?
Jaxon Austin: I play baseball and basketball. In baseball, I’m a starting pitcher and also play right field.
VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
JA: I’ve accomplished my dream of going to college to pitch.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?
JA: It’s taught me discipline because you can’t get better unless you show up every day and put in the work, even when you’re tired.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
JA: My favorite teacher is Coach Collins. He’s someone I can go to for advice both on and off the field.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
JA: My mom inspires me the most. My mom works hard and always puts our family before herself. Watching her stay strong and keep going inspires me to work harder and not complain when things get tough.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
JA: The teammates that have left the biggest impression on me are Gavin and Maddux. They both bring something different to the team, but they lead by example every day.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
JA: My favorite part about representing my high school as an athlete is the pride that comes with wearing my school’s name across my chest. It gives me a sense of responsibility to work harder, stay disciplined, and represent my school in a positive way.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
JA: Baseball is a game of failure—you can hit the ball hard and still get out or make the right pitch and it still finds a gap. You can’t control the umpire’s call, the weather, or how the other team plays, but you can control your effort, your attitude, your preparation, and how you respond to mistakes.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
JA: Coach Collins, thank you for pushing me to be better every single day. The lessons you’ve given me go way beyond the field, and I’m grateful for the time, effort, and confidence you’ve invested in me.
