VYPE: What grade are you in?
Landry Turner: I am in 11th grade at McAlester High School.
VYPE: What instrument do you play, and how long have you been involved in band?
LT: I play the trombone, and I have been in band for six years.
VYPE: What is your favorite performance you’ve been a part of and why?
LT: My favorite performance was our 2025 marching show, “Blazing Glory.” It was a great show to be a part of, and it was very successful.
VYPE: What accomplishment in band are you most proud of?
LT: I’m most proud of making the All-District Honor Band four years.
VYPE: How has being in band helped you grow as a person?
LT: Band has helped me grow by teaching me how to be a better person and to appreciate the little things in life.
VYPE: What does a typical game day or performance day look like for you?
LT: A typical game day is different for me because I am also a cheerleader. I spend time on the sideline cheering, then I march the halftime show in my cheer uniform.
VYPE: Who has had the biggest impact on your musical journey?
LT: My band directors have had the biggest impact because they make everything enjoyable and are always supportive.
VYPE: How do you balance band with school and other activities?
LT: I am a multi-sport athlete, so balancing everything is tough. My days start with 6:15 a.m. cheer practice, followed by 7:00 a.m. marching band rehearsal, then school. Even though I’m tired, these activities keep me going.
VYPE: What are your goals for the future?
LT: My goal is to become an All-Stater. After high school, I plan to be part of the Oklahoma State University band program while studying to become an optometrist.
