Leading the Ada Cougars is junior Drake Kanuch, the team’s three-year varsity standout with serious college potential. “Drake is a Jr. playing his third year of varsity golf,” said head coach Robert Powell. “He has won (1) tournament so far and I expect he will win several more over the next few seasons. He is a very hard worker with a great work ethic. Colleges should really keep an eye on him; he will be a very good college golfer.”
Another key contributor is Kash Rogers, the underclassman to watch who has shown major improvement through dedicated effort. “Kash works hard at being a good player,” Powell said. “He is a junior. this year, and as he has grown and gotten stronger his golf game has improved a great deal. I expect him to have a really solid season.”
The team’s lone senior, Couper Rogers, earns recognition for his leadership and consistency heading into his fourth state tournament appearance. “Couper is a very high character person,” Powell said. “He is my only senior on the team. Looking to play in his fourth State Tournament this year. I expect his to have a good season.”
Brandy Kanuch receives mom of the month honors for her constant support of the entire squad. “Brandy helps with booster club fund raising,” Powell said. “She attends every tournament and brings drinks and snack for all of the kids every time we play.”
With Drake Kanuch’s tournament-winning form anchoring the lineup, Kash Rogers’ upward trajectory adding depth, and Couper Rogers providing veteran stability for his final state run, Coach Powell’s Cougars enter the spring season with strong scoring potential across the roster. Add Brandy Kanuch’s unwavering support keeping the team fueled at every event, and Ada has the work ethic and leadership to post low team totals throughout district play and beyond.
