After capturing a district title last season, the Wayne Bulldogs enter the new campaign with experience returning to the diamond and clear areas of focus as they look to build on that success under head coach Shane Collins.

“We have six starters coming back from last year’s team when we won a district title,” Collins said. “We will have to replace a lot of pitching, which will be tough. We should be fairly athletic and will have to rely on that when running the bases. Limiting errors and playing smart baseball will be key for us this year.”

Anchoring the Bulldogs’ lineup is Langstyn McClendon, a standout who made an immediate impact as a freshman and now steps into an even larger role.

“Langstyn will be a sophomore he hit three-hole for us last year and started every game at shortstop as a freshman,” Collins said. “He also pitched last year going 5-1 with a no hitter under his belt. He has good speed and is a smart baserunner also. He will be the heart of our team, and we will go as far as he takes us.”

McClendon’s ability to contribute both at the plate and on the mound gives Wayne a dynamic presence in the middle of the field. His speed and instincts on the bases fit perfectly with Collins’ emphasis on athleticism and aggressive, intelligent play.

Another key piece for the Bulldogs is Rhett Albert, a veteran presence who has steadily improved throughout his career.

“Rhett has been on the team for three years now he has gotten better each year and has one of the best work ethics I have seen as a coach,” Collins said. “I am expecting him to start in the outfield for us this year and be an integral part of our team. He is a very selfless player that helps the team in any way he can.”

With six starters returning, a proven district championship foundation, and leaders like McClendon and Albert setting the tone, the Bulldogs will look to combine athleticism, discipline, and smart baseball as they chase another strong postseason run.
