Stuart’s Cade Carlton – Baseball Spotlight

What does it mean to chase a dream with a team that feels more like family than just a lineup on a scorecard? For Stuart High School freshman infielder Cade Carlton, the answer starts with a championship vision and a tight-knit dugout in Stuart, Oklahoma.

“To be a part of a state championship with my team of brothers,” Carlton said, explaining the goal that drives him every day with the Hornets.

Carlton, a ninth grader who stands 5-foot-7, plays baseball, basketball and competes in track, embracing every chance to represent Stuart across multiple sports. “Experiencing getting to play at the State Tournament!” he said, calling that postseason stage one of his favorite moments so far in his young career.

As the new season approaches, he said he knows those kinds of opportunities only come through commitment long
before the first pitch is thrown.

“Preparation is a daily grind,” Carlton said. “We’re grinding every day in the off season to be prepared when the season begins.”

On the diamond, Carlton’s versatility gives Stuart options all over the infield. He works at third base, shortstop and second, filling whatever role his coaches need on a given day. “It helps to understand what pitch is coming where the defense
is setup,” he said. “There’s no better team defensively than the Stuart Hornets.”

Carlton said that confidence on defense and in the dugout comes from the upperclassmen and vocal teammates who set the tone. “Morale is always high because of the leaders we have on this ball club,” he said. “We are more like brothers than a
team.”

That brotherhood shapes how he views his responsibilities. He said he does not measure his value just by positions or stats, but by his willingness to serve the group.“I’m willing to do whatever is asked of me to help my team win,” Carlton said.

Away from the scoreboard, his message stays consistent for anyone watching his journey.\

“If you are willing to put the work in, you can achieve great things,” he said. “Hard work beats talent.”

Looking ahead, Carlton said his goals reach beyond high school fields and small-town crowds. “I aspire to play college baseball and continue challenging myself at the next level,” he said.
