McAlester Buffaloes Volleyball Preview
The McAlester Buffaloes are set to hit the court in 2025 with a young but motivated roster ready to build on last season’s progress. Coming off a 15-18 record in 2024, head coach Chris Burns is optimistic about the growth and development he sees in this year’s squad.
“We are a young team looking to grow on the momentum from the 2024 team’s success,” said Burns. That momentum comes from gaining valuable experience last season, and the Buffaloes now look to translate that into stronger play and team chemistry this fall.
One of the biggest leaders on the court will be senior Lexi Picotte, the lone returning varsity player from last season. Picotte’s steady play in the back row and her ability to motivate her teammates makes her a cornerstone of the Buffaloes’ lineup. “Lexi is the only returning varsity player from last year looking to make a big impact on the 2025 team. Lexi is an anchor on defense and a big motivator and key member of the team,” Burns said.
The future of McAlester volleyball is also bright with young talent ready to step up. Kyli Swing made her mark on the junior varsity squad in 2024 and will now look to carry that success to the varsity level. “Kyli was a major key to the JV success in 2024 and major impact on offense as a setter. Her leadership on the team on and off the floor is vital for success in the future,” Burns said.
Another name to watch is Birklie Roberts, a versatile underclassman who can contribute in multiple ways. Burns praised her willingness to adapt, saying, “Birklie is an all-around player looking to make an impact in any way possible. She has a willingness to take on new roles for the team to help out however she can.”
Along with their on-court performers, the Buffaloes are also defined by their team-first mentality and strong character. Junior Dallas Calderon exemplifies that spirit. “Dallas is a Junior and hard worker for the team. She intends to be in the medical field after graduation. Dallas is a big piece of team morale and chemistry,” Burns said.
With a group committed to growth, leadership from veterans, and promising underclassmen ready to step forward, the Buffaloes enter the 2025 season eager to prove themselves.
