McAlester High School’s Gracelinn Douglas – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Josh Hass Insurance

Leadership is something Gracelinn Douglas takes to heart as a captain for McAlester cheer. “My personal goals are to lead by example and bring positive aspects to the team,” she said. That attitude has shaped her approach not just to cheer, but to how she inspires those around her.

One of the most exciting changes she’s noticed this season is the way her teammates have come together. “Our team morale has improved dramatically the past few weeks, and we all treat each other like family,” Douglas explained. That sense of unity is showing up in how they perform. “Our biggest improvement so far is how efficiently our team works together.”

For Douglas, the team’s collective focus is simple but powerful. “Our main goal this year is to keep spirit high and represent McAlester High School in a positive manner.” She believes their success comes from working as one. “The team’s biggest strength is that we do not perform individually, but instead as a whole.”

Being captain gives her the chance to help her teammates shine. “As captain, I try to keep energy high and maintain my teammate’s confidence.” That enthusiasm fuels her own excitement when it comes to new challenges. “When learning a new routine, I look forward to performing it in front of our fans.”

Outside of practice, Douglas works to stay sharp. “I work on conditioning my mind and body outside of practice, by working out and maintaining hydration,” she said. When it’s time to step onto the sidelines, her focus is clear. “I set my mindset to stay encouraging and keep the crowd engaged.”

Looking ahead, she hopes her legacy extends beyond athletics. “I want to be remembered as someone who was determined in not only cheer, but academics also.”

Fans might not realize just how much dedication goes into that spirit. “Most fans are unaware that we have morning practice at 6 A.M. every day,” Douglas said.

Her favorite memory so far came with the thrill of achievement. “My favorite memory in a cheer uniform is finding out we made it to state last year.”

Balancing it all, Douglas is already preparing for her future. “I plan on attending OSU’s 3+3 Juris Doctorate program with OU and becoming an attorney.”
