KENNY GOLSTON

VALLIANT HIGH SCHOOL

The 2024 football season is shaping up as a breakthrough year for Valliant running back Kenny Golston. The talented junior broke the 1000-yard rushing mark last year as a sophomore and according to his new coach, Joe Jones, he’s got a great upside.

“One of the most impressive things about Kenny is his work ethic in the weight room and the way he approaches work every day on the practice field,” said Jones. “He’s got a lot of raw talent with strength, speed, great feet and good field vision which can be a force for a running back. That combination of talents is something you don’t see often in a small school setting. I think he’s also as good a defensive player at outside linebacker as he is a running back.” In addition to football, Kenny also plays power forward for the Bulldog basketball team and runs the 100- and 200-meter sprints and the 4X100 relay in track. His mom got him started in football when he was in the second grade.

“Mom saw I was bigger than most of the kids my age, so she got me involved in football. I

played nose guard at first and I’d just jump over the kids on the line and grab the quarterback,” laughed the three-year starter.

One of his role models growing up has been pro football running back Derrick Henry.

“I feel like we’re the same kind of runners and I like the way he’s strong and powerful as a

running back.”

Coach Jones was at Wynnewood last year when Golston had what he considers the highlight of his high school career so far. “I scored four touchdowns and had 300 yards rushing in that game,” said Kenny. “And unfortunately, I had to witness it all,” added the coach. Golston credits his mom with being a driving force behind his success.

“As a single mom she always finds a way to bring me up if I’m down and she’s teaching me how to be a man.”

Golston’s goal for the year is to get 1500 yards rushing on offense and have at least 70

tackles, two sacks and three interceptions on defense-and for the Bulldogs to make the playoffs.
