QUINCY SHELTON

HUGO HIGH SCHOOL

Speed, good hands and leadership are three of the big attributes that coach Krys Gross credits to Hugo junior wide receiver Quincy Shelton.

“He broke into our starting lineup about halfway through his freshman year and has been there ever since,” said Gross. He does things right, expects others to do things right and isn’t afraid to let them know about it if they don’t. He’s got a great attitude, is a hard worker and is good in the classroom.”

Shelton, who also plays defensive back for the Buffaloes, had 800 yards receiving last year and over 1000 all-purpose yards in his sophomore season. In addition to football, Quincy also plays guard on the Buffs basketball team and runs the 100-meter sprint and 4X100 and 4X200 relays in track though a scheduling conflict prevented him from getting to the track regionals last year and Gross feels they probably would have qualified for state.

Quincy grew up watching his cousin Will King play football and that inspired him to start. He cites Colorado phenom Travis Hunter and pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson as two role models of his. “I like the way they carry themselves and how confident they are on the field,” said Shelton.

Though he excels in both football and basketball, he says he likes football best “because I like getting in the end zone.”

With eight return starters back on offense for the Buffaloes this year, Quincy is hopeful of

posting some more W’s this season and looks forward to working again with quarterback Jayka Santillan. “We’ve played together since middle school and even now we’ll go out and run a lot of routes outside of practice. I hope this season to break the single season school record of 917 yards receiving and with all the guys back we have back on offense I think I can,” said Shelton who is also a member of the Hugo show choir.
