KAGANN WILLISTON
HAWORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Though she admits that she played football in a little league growing up, Haworth High School senior Kagann Williston is a softball player at heart where she pitches and plays first base for the Lions.
But with the 2024 season underway, Williston finds herself on the bench.
“I suffered a knee injury recently and so I’m just waiting until the doctors tell me I can get back out there again. In the meantime, I’m going to all the practices and games and cheering the team on and doing my best to be a good leader by helping others out when I can,” said Williston.
Though she’s played softball since she was about four years old starting in T-ball, she did take a break her sophomore year and has been back at it for the last two seasons.. As a senior leader, she values good sportsmanship as a trait that a good leader should have and a willingness to show the younger players ways to correct their mistakes. She grew up watching her cousin Sierra play at Valliant and now is playing for another relative.
“I guess you’d say I’m pretty self-motivated and I have a nephew that I play for to set a good example.”
How much she’ll get to play the rest of the fast pitch season remains to be seen which Kagann says she’ll miss because she likes to pitch, but she should be all ready to go by next spring and the slow pitch season for sure.
“After I graduate, I’m going to go to school to become a nurse,” Kagann said.
