Lylith Harris is a multi-sport athlete for Durant High School. She plays catcher and middle infield on the softball team and she is also a member of the powerlifting team. As an athlete, she has had other athletes that she has looked up to as role models.
“I grew up in a family of Oklahoma Sooners softball fans,” she said proudly. “With that being said, I have always looked up to their team with hopes to be like them one day. They were always my role models because I love the energy and passion they bring to every game.”
Being able to wear her school colors and play for her school is something special to Harris. She says for her, it is about more than just herself.
“I love representing Durant when I play with my team,” she said. “By doing this, I am a part of something bigger than myself. My team and I love having students and a town behind us when we go out and compete. My motivation in softball are the younger girls that have told me they look up to me as a player and person.”
As a student in the classroom, Lylith has learned from a number of teachers. But she says that out of all of them, there is one that stands out.
“I believe Mrs. Gaines, my Government and History teacher, has had the biggest impact on my life,” she stated. “Throughout my junior year, she showed tremendous passion and strength. She taught me when life gets hard, you keep going.”
During the season, Harris and her teammates face teams that give them different levels of competition. She has one team that she likes to play against the most.
“I would say Claremore is a team that I love competing against them,” she said. “Their talent and teamwork pushes us to our full potential as a team. Claremore is always a game filled with tons of energy and determination from both dugouts.”
