OFFENSE
The Durant Lions are gearing up for a promising season with a well-rounded and experienced offense. “Very excited about the upcoming season. We have a talented group of young men with a lot of experience and playing time. We are expecting good things,” head coach Todd Vargas said. The offense will be led by quarterback Cole Robbins (6-0, 185, Jr.), with key contributions from wide receiver Ryder Jones (6-1, 170, Sr.) and running backs Jaxon Cuesta (5-10, 225, Jr.) and Stephen Manhard (5-10, 175, Jr.). The offensive line is anchored by tackle Grant Bull (6-2, 265, Jr.) and guard Maximus Airington (6-1, 225, Jr.). “We run a first power, counter and zone mix with a passing scheme to complement it,” Vargas explained. With five returning starters, the Lions aim to be a tough offensive unit this season.
DEFENSE
The Lions’ defense will operate from a 4-3 base with an emphasis on speed and physicality. “We focus on being fast and physical,” Vargas noted. The defensive line features standout Colton Yarbrough (6-5, 245, Jr.) and defensive end Mason Bacu (6-2, 225, Sr.). The linebacker corps is led by Jayden Rangel (6-2, 220, Jr.) and Axel Thurman (5-9, 200, Jr.), both of whom bring intensity and experience. In the secondary, Holden Robinson (6-2, 175, Jr.) and Daultry Barker (6-0, 175, Sr.) provide solid coverage. With six returning starters, the Lions’ defense is expected to set the tone for a successful season. The coaching staff consists of Shawn McClellan (OC), Middle Dills (DC), John Wilmoth, Travis Smith, Jacob Bradberry, JW Parsons, and Jeff Norris.
