SMITHVILLE WARRIORS
COACH: Trent Brown
Record: 23-7
OUTLOOK
The Smithville Warriors enter the 2025-2026 season coming off one of their best years in recent memory, finishing 23-7. Head coach Trent Brown, now in his second year, is proud of how his young team exceeded expectations last season — and he’s eager to see how they continue to grow.
“Was expected to win 10-12 games last year but exceeded expectations mostly due to three freshmen coming in and being ready to contribute,” said Brown. “We made it to the second round of Area and lost to Asher, who started five seniors and had made it to the game to go the previous year.”
The Warriors will look to build on that experience with a talented and determined returning core. Though they graduated three seniors — including two starters and their sixth man — Brown believes his younger players are ready to take the next step.
At the center of Smithville’s success is sophomore point guard Jarron Ford (5-8),. “Jarron was our MVP last year as well and started as a freshman from the beginning of the year as our point guard,” said Brown. “He led the team in scoring with 14.8 ppg, second in rebounds at 5.3, second in steals at 2.4, first in free throw percentage at 77%, and first in three-point percentage at 33%.” Brown praised Ford’s leadership and relentless work ethic: “He is a great ball handler, strong for his size, can score from anywhere on the court, and is a straight-A student who spends more time in the gym than any player I’ve been around.”
Another key piece is sophomore guard Jraygan Jacobs, who Brown says thrives in pressure situations. “He rotated starting the first half of the season before becoming a full-time starter,” said Brown. “He’s a high basketball IQ guy with a killer instinct. He hit the game winner in two games this year, one in OT in our first-round area matchup.”
Rounding out the core is Dacoda Denton, a versatile and athletic standout who earned the MC-6 Conference Hustle Award. “Dacoda is an extremely athletic kid that can score from anywhere,” said Brown.
