OUTLOOK
The Haworth Lady Lions are determined to turn heads this season with a veteran-heavy roster and several promising young talents ready to make an impact. Head coach Konar Hall, entering his second year at the helm, is confident in the growth and mindset of his team. “Four starters returning this season and several new faces,” said Hall. “Our girls have excellent character and have been working hard to improve. The girls have improved drastically from last year and are looking to show people what they are made of.”
At the core of Haworth’s lineup is sophomore guard Anaya Gragg (5-3), the team’s leading scorer from a year ago. “Anaya is coming off a freshman year where she led our team in scoring,” said Hall. “She has multiple high-scoring games including five 25+ point games. She is an outstanding student as well, having all A’s. Hard work is what sets her apart from others.” Gragg’s ability to attack defenses and create scoring opportunities gives the Lady Lions a dynamic offensive presence.
Senior leadership will also play a huge role this season with experienced returners Jaleeya Whitfield (6-0, F), Za’Mariah Morris (5-8, F), Damonica Baker (6’0, F), and Alyssa Long (5-9, F) anchoring the lineup. “Jaleeya is more than just a student-athlete; she is an excellent student and person,” Hall said. “She’s involved in basketball, cheer, and is active in her community and church.”
Another senior, Alyssa Long, brings a tremendous work ethic both on and off the floor. “Alyssa is a Chapter Officer, an annual member of the State FFA Choir, and also shows goats that have placed at local and county shows,” said Hall. “She’s active in softball, basketball, Key Club, FFA, FCA, Show Choir, and her church. She’s an honor student and was recently named Kiwanis and Haworth HS Student of the Month.”
Freshman guard Zaylee Vann (5-5) is another key piece for Haworth’s future. “Zaylee just recently moved in from Denison K8 School,” said Hall. “She is very fundamental and a great three-point shooter. She has good grades and is a really good kid.”
Rounding out the roster are Asia Morris (5-3, Jr.), Caylee Shoults (5-4, Fr.), Hallie Sims (5-4, Fr.), Camilla Bryant (5-7, Fr.), Laramie Brown (6-1, So.), Dream Young (5-9, Fr.), and Sara Neil (5-7, Jr.), each adding valuable depth and energy to the rotation.
With returning starters, emerging young talent, and a roster filled with determination, coach Hall believes the Lady Lions are ready to take a big step forward.
