KHLOE HOLLAND-TALIHINA
“I don’t know that I’ve ever coached a harder working kid.”
That’s how Talihina girls’ basketball coach Josh Fields describes senior Khloe Holland.
“She was in seventh grade when I got here and was on my junior high teams. She’s our point guard and has started every game. She’s a leader of the team and has been named All-Conference the past two years. She averaged about 14 points a game this past season and led the team in steals as well. She played just about every minute of every game.”
Both coach and player say that Khloe drew inspiration from a family member.
“I think she saw how hard her sister Dayton played and it gave her something to work towards,” said Fields.
“Yes, I watched my sister play and that’s what got me into basketball around second grade,” said Khloe.
Holland also plays softball for the Golden Tigers where she has played in the outfield.
“I enjoy softball, but I didn’t start playing until I got to high school so I’m not as comfortable with it as I am with basketball. I really just started playing because some of my friends were playing,” said Khloe who is also in the school chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and who ran the hurdles in track for two years.
As Khloe has improved her basketball skills over the years, it is reflected in the improvement of the program as well from not winning a single game in her freshman year to making the area tournament the past two seasons. And that resulted in the highlight of Khloe’s basketball career this past season.
“This year we made it to the area tournament by beating Panama in the regional consolation bracket game after they beat us pretty good in the LeFlore County Tournament so that was pretty special.”
After graduation this spring, Khloe plans to attend OU and study nursing.
