Quinton’s Jeremy Lay – Basketball Spotlight

Some athletes walk into a new program quietly. Others arrive ready to elevate everyone around them. When senior Jeremy Lay moved to Quinton in June, he didn’t just join a team—he instantly became part of its heartbeat. As he puts it, his personal focus this season is simple but powerful: “To be the best teammate possible and to be a good leader.”

From the moment he arrived, he noticed the culture shifting in all the right ways. “Since I moved here in June, I’ve seen the guys step up with intensity, dedication, and respect for each other and the game of basketball.” That growth, he says, comes from two key qualities: “Work ethic and discipline.”

Jeremy’s goals line up perfectly with the team’s vision. They want to go deep into the postseason, and he believes the path is clear. “To make it as far as possible in the playoffs by giving our all in practice and with communication, loyalty, and dedication to each other, on and off the court.”

One thing he believes truly separates this group is the connection they share. “The bond we’ve created and our shooting ability.” As a versatile guard who plays “point guard and shooting guard,” he’s constantly scanning for ways to put his teammates in position to succeed. When he studies defenses, he says, “I try to find the weakness of the defense and attack that area.”

Preparation is a big part of his game. He stays ready by focusing on consistency and conditioning. “By staying in shape to keep my legs under me from start to finish and I shoot a high volume of shots every day.” And when the ball tips, his mindset sharpens: “To make sure I contribute everything I can to help my team succeed.”

The team, he says, is trending upward: “We are vastly improved from what we were at this time a year ago.”

Jeremy is involved in baseball, FCA and Centerpoint Baptist Youth Group. His plan after high school is to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College to major in physical education.
