QUINTON SAVAGES

BRIAN HAYNIE

5-6

OFFENSE

After going 9-3 in 2022 and getting to the second round of the playoffs, the Quinton Savages fell to 5-6 last year and nowstarting his third year at the helm coach Brian Haynie faces the dilemma that most coaches face at some point in their time at a school: GRADUATION. Over the past two years they have lost much of their leadership and experience to matriculation and Haynie is scrambling to see what kind of team he’ll have with the 2024 season on the horizon. “Honestly, I have more questions than answers right now about our team. We return very little experience on either side of the ball, and we will be very young. We have no seniors on the roster and have been using spring practice to see who emerges at most spots. We have four returning starters on offense and three on defense with six juniors, eight sophomores and eight freshmen in the mix.” On offense Haynie touts tight end Bo Wagnon (6-1, 200, Jr.) and wide receiver Mikey Perez (5-8, 140, So.) and has high hopes for sophomore Trentynn Shamblin who will play running back for the Savages. “Trentynn has had a really good off season and has great work habits that will help him succeed,” said Haynie. One of the first orders of business for the Savages will be to find a replacement at quarterback for the talented butnow departed Eli Blankenship.

DEFENSE

As noted, the defensive side of the ball will also lack experience with Wagnon at linebacker probably the heart of the Savage D. “Bo is a youngster with a lot of upside and great work habits who had a good sophomore season,” said Haynie. Perez will return at cornerback along with Bret Bray (5-7, 140, Jr.) and Landon Lyle (5-9, 145, Jr.) will once again be one of the guys with a hand on the ground in the defensive front while Shamblin will likely join Wagnon at a linebacker position. Savage pride will need to rise to the top this year as Quinton struggles to learn on the fly with a young crew. Perhaps helping them will be a friendly schedule that finds three of their first four games on home turf.
