OUTLOOK

The Buffs look to make a statement this season. “We have a mixture of underclassmen mixed with a strong group of seniors who are looking to have a great season,” said head coach Hollye Jernigen. Casey Woods (Sr.) has already led an illustrious career at McAlester and eyes a promising senior year, where the Buffs will thrive on her ability to play several positions without taking a hit in productivity. “Casey Woods is an exceptional player who excels in both offense and defense. Known for her powerful and consistent batting, Casey is a formidable presence at the plate, driving in runs and changing the momentum of the game,” Jernigen said. “Her versatility on the field is equally impressive; She can seamlessly play any infield position, demonstrating remarkable agility, strong fielding skills and a keen game sense. Casey’s dedication, leadership and all-around talent make her an invaluable asset to our team.” Rylan Lesnau (So.) will be a key contributor to this team after making a strong impression her freshman year. “Our sophomore shortstop [Lesnau] is a player whose contributions often go unnoticed but are vital to the team’s success,” Jernigen said. “Her exceptional defensive skills and quick reflexes make her a cornerstone of our infield, reliably making plays that keep our opponents at bay.

Offensively, she brings consistency and smart base running, often setting the stage for big innings. Her work ethic, positive attitude, and team-first mentality embody the spirit of a true unsung hero, making her an indispensable part of our team.” Lesnau, along with pitcher Shylie Mason (Sr.), are like the glue that holds the unit together. Jernigen said Mason “exemplified outstanding character” on the field and off it. “Her [Mason’s] leadership, integrity and sportsmanship set a positive example for her teammates. On the mound, she is not only a skilled and reliable pitcher but also a source of encouragement and motivation for the entire team. Off the field, she is equally impressive, demonstrating kindness, responsibility and a strong commitment to her academics and community service. Her unwavering dedication and positive attitude make her a true role model, embodying the values of character and excellence in all aspects of her life.” Ambree House (So.) is one of the brightest underclassman talents in the area. “With the ability to play multiple positions effectively, she [House] provides invaluable flexibility and depth to our lineup,” Jernigen said. “Offensively, she is a powerful hitter, capable of driving the ball deep and consistently producing runs. Her combination of adaptability in the field and potent hitting makes her a key player to watch and a crucial contributor to our team’s success.” McAlester’s home opener against Stigler is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. The Buffaloes will take on the Oktaha Tournament (Sep. 13) and the Tahlequah Festival (Sep. 26-27) this season.
