Some athletes are never satisfied with just repeating the past—and Paige Igou is one of them. “To hit more home runs than I did last year and to have a lower ERA,” she said of her personal goals heading into her senior season.
Kiowa is attacking this season with a smarter, more seasoned approach. “We have more experience under our belts, and we know more now about what we have to do to get the job done.”
That growth has shown up most in how the team handles adversity. “Overcoming adversity,” Igou said simply when asked what the biggest improvement has been.
Of course, winning is the ultimate goal—but it’s how they plan to get there that defines them. “To win a state championship and working together,” she said when asked about the team’s focus.
That unity is amplified by the fact that the team isn’t young or inexperienced anymore. “Our experience on the softball field,” she said when pointing to Kiowa’s biggest strength.
Paige’s athletic versatility is a major asset for the team. “Pitcher, shortstop,” she said of the positions she plays.
At the plate, she knows how to read the field and make it count. “I hit where they’re not.”
With the amount of wear and tear a long season can bring, Paige takes her prep seriously. “I take care of my body and eat and drink the right things before a game.”
No matter the inning, situation, or scoreboard, Paige always brings a competitive edge. “I try to compete to the best of my ability.”
She hopes her impact at Kiowa will be remembered well beyond her stats. “I want people to remember that I was a good teammate and a good person on and off the field.”
Faith fuels everything the team does behind the scenes. “That we put all of our faith in the Lord,” she said, when asked what fans may not know about Kiowa softball.
For pregame adrenaline, Paige sticks with a rock classic. “Back in Black by AC/DC.”
Her top moment in a Kiowa uniform? No hesitation. “Hitting a home run and that putting us up on Soper my junior year at state.”
