CANADIAN COUGARS
Coach: NATHAN LEITHEAD
1-8-1
OFFENSE
Offseason success in the weight room and a move to Class B has the Cougar faithful excited about the prospects of a new season. Head coach Nathan Leithead said the program is on the rise. “Canadian is transitioning to class B after being in class A for the past four seasons. Canadian is growing a program and has seen high levels of success in the weight room and think that the future is bright. Eight starters are back on offense including quarterback Thunder Elza (6-2, 215, Sr.). Elza will pilot the split-back veer offense and play a big role in the run game. As will Tyler Bird (5-7, 170, Sr.) at running back. The one-two punch of Elza and Bird will keep opponents guessing. Roy Connor (6-3, 312, Jr.) will start at center with Dustin Storm (6-0, 245, So.) at guard. This group can control the clock and move the chains behind the big men up front.
DEFENSE
The Cougars will run a 3-3-2 scheme and play gap control defense. Thunder Elza will go both ways for the Cougars, playing defensive end. Several players will likely see time on defense as the Cougars look to make stops and force teams into bad down and distance plays. Michael Burdge is the defensive coordinator and Matt Miller will assist both sides of the ball.
