Stonewall’s Mika Matt – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by First United Bank of Ada

Mika Matt’s dedication to sports is reflected in his commitment to both personal growth and his team. As a senior at Stonewall High School, Mika plays basketball, baseball and runs cross country, demonstrating versatility and determination across multiple sports. His focus is clear— “I like the thrill of competition and competing and pushing to be the best version of myself,” he shared.

As a shooting and point guard on the basketball team, Mika plays a key leadership role. His journey has been shaped by hard work and discipline, despite the challenges along the way. “It wasn’t easy putting in the extra work when my friends and everyone were out having fun, but these three things helped me stay on course to get where I’m at today,” he reflects on the importance of commitment, hard work and discipline.

Mika credits his family, especially his mother, as a major source of inspiration. “My mom because she’s been my top supporter and is always there during my lowest times. And that she has never given up on me and pushes me past my limits.” Her encouragement has been vital in his journey, both on and off the court. Mika also appreciates the support he’s received from teachers, naming Mrs. Ferris as particularly impactful. “She always treated me like one of her own kids and was always helpful in the classroom.”

A highlight of Mika’s high school career was last season’s basketball success, where the team finished 26-3 and became district champions. “It was the best team I could be a part of,” he said proudly.

Looking ahead, Mika plans to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma to pursue a career as a traveling nurse.

“I try to play a certain way to leave a lasting impression for the younger athletes in the community,” Mika said, showing that his impact reaches beyond just the scoreboard. Representing his school and community is a responsibility he takes seriously, especially when he sees the Kelly green at away games.
