Sasakwa’s Titan and Titus Collins
For Titan and Titus Collins, some of their greatest high school memories have come from sharing the field, court and diamond together.
The Sasakwa brothers have spent years competing alongside one another, creating a bond that extends beyond sibling rivalry. While they admit they occasionally get frustrated with each other, both agree there is no one else they would rather have as a teammate.
“It has been great, except for when we get mad at each other sometimes,” Titan said.
Titus echoed the sentiment.
“It has been a blessing, but we do get mad at each other sometimes,” he said. “But it’s all love.”
Titan, a senior, competes in football, basketball, baseball and cross country, while Titus, a junior, participates in football, basketball and baseball. Together, they have helped contribute to a memorable period for Sasakwa athletics.
Both point to football as the source of some of their proudest accomplishments. Titan remembers helping Sasakwa win a district championship at home for the first time, while Titus takes pride in being part of the first football team in school history to capture a district title.
Those achievements came through hard work and lessons learned along the way.
“This sport has taught me discipline and responsibility,” Titan said. “They helped me become a better person by making my mentality strong.”
For Titus, football taught him the value of focusing on what he can control.
“Football taught me to control what I can control, my effort and my body language,” he said. “That taught me how to stay disciplined.”
Both brothers point to many of the same influences during their high school careers. Coach Berryhill is their favorite teacher, earning praise for creating a classroom environment that is both enjoyable and educational.
They also credit Jojo Lunn for making a lasting impact. Both admire his leadership abilities and the way he keeps teammates focused and motivated, qualities they have tried to bring to their own teams.
The Collins brothers are committed students as well. Both are members of the National Honor Society and take pride in representing Sasakwa in the classroom and in competition.
Family has played a major role in shaping their athletic journeys. Titan credits his father for helping make football fun from an early age. Titus is especially thankful for his grandfather, Henry Harper, who has served as a coach and mentor throughout his life.
“He has been a coach to me all of my life in football, baseball, basketball and just giving me life lessons throughout all of it,” Titus said.
The support they receive from family and the Sasakwa community makes every game meaningful. Titan says the close-knit hometown atmosphere helps make home games special.
“I think it means everything for them to watch us play on the same team,” Titan said.
As Titan prepares for graduation and Titus continues his high school career, the brothers are focused on making the most of every game they have left together, adding a few more memories to a journey neither will soon forget.
