MOM OF THE MONTH

LaKeshia Snodgrass-Sasakwa

Sports has been a way of life for LaKeshia Snodgrass growing up and now into her adult life with a football coach husband and two active teen athletes.

“I played college softball, my dad played college football and my brother played college baseball,” said Snodgrass. “Later I married a man who played college football and we had our sons Titan and Titus Collins. They played a lot of travel baseball growing up and I was the mom in the bleachers looking on. The boys learned a lot of discipline and about being good teammates in travel ball because a lot of times those teams were just kind of thrown together and it wasn’t always about who was the best player but also about being good teammates.”

Later she married Corky Snodgrass who is the football coach at Sasakwa where they’ve lived for the past three years, and the boys are both under Corky’s guidance on the gridiron which adds another layer to the already hectic life of the sports mom.

“Not many people get to see the up close and personal side of football like I have as a coach’s wife and mother of players. I get to see every practice, scrimmage, game and weight lift and be a part of the whole process instead of just watching from the stands like I did in baseball,” said LaKeshia.

While it’s mostly all sports all the time at the Snodgrass house, LaKeshia says the boys control things.

“We don’t push them-they’ve always had the option of playing or not playing if they wanted a weekend off. We make family time for activities away from sports like a movie or time at the lake.”

As you might expect the football booster club at Sasakwa is small, but Snodgrass says being a part of it should be important to every parent regardless of school size.

“Being a part of the booster club shows your kids that you’re willing to support them not only at home but also on the field.”

The Snodgrass family also has two daughters: Gracyn, who goes to school in Wewoka and Olivia who was an All-State cheerleader at Sasakwa.
