Scotty Garrett’s football journey began early, and his dedication to the sport has been unwavering ever since. “I went to Paoli in second grade and been a Pug since then. My uncle Jonnie Roberts started when I was in the fourth grade,” he recalled. From that point on, it was clear that football would be a defining part of his life.
Football came naturally to Scotty. “I was the best at football out of other sports,” he said, attributing his inspiration to NFL legend Ray Lewis. With the influence of his role models and years of hard work, Scotty has grown into a leader on the field. “I make sure I’m locked in, then I make sure everyone knows the game plan: WIN.”
The Paoli Pugs have strong team chemistry, especially among the seniors who have been playing together since sixth grade. “Us seniors have been playing together since sixth grade, and the underclassmen have learned from us,” Scotty explained. This bond, coupled with determination, has fueled the team’s lofty goal for the 2024 season: “District champions and at the end, hold that gold ball up.”
Training is rigorous, but Scotty embraces it with discipline. “School, practice, workout, recover, eat, sleep, repeat,” he summed up his typical week. While football has brought many highlights, such as his unforgettable “50-yard touchdown after a spin move up the middle,” Scotty has also faced challenges, particularly the loss of his grandfather. “My grandpa passing was the most challenging moment. Knowing he is in a better place now helped me get through it,” he shared.
Outside of football, Scotty enjoys working out and playing video games, but his sights are set on playing at the next level. “Plan on going to college to play football,” he says confidently. He’s proud of the impact he’s made at Paoli, both on and off the field. “Meeting the coaches, friends, and the impact I left” is what stands out most from his high school career. He credits his father as his role model and his favorite teacher, coach Kase Mathis, for invaluable life advice.
With community support, a dedicated mindset, and big dreams, Scotty Garrett is ready to tackle whatever comes next.
