Bulldog Excellence: Sulphur’s All-State Stars and Academic Champions

Sulphur’s small-town lights burned a little brighter this year thanks to a pair of playmakers and a room full of scholars wearing wrestling shoes instead of letter jackets. On Friday nights, the Bulldogs’ home crowd rose to its feet for two seniors who seemed born for big stages and big moments. By winter, another Sulphur team was proving that championships can be earned with textbooks as surely as with tackles and takedowns.

Running back and safety Maddax Mobly set the tone with a fearless style that matched the stormy sky often painted behind his image. Each time he took the field, he played as if the next snap might be the one that changed the game. Whether he was hurdling a defender or laying out for a pass, Mobly brought an electricity that spread from the huddle to the stands. Opponents saw only a blur of red and white as he broke free, but teammates saw the hours of work that built those highlight-reel moments.

Quarterback Colten Cole provided the steady hand and fiery leadership every contender needs. Cool in the pocket and confident in the huddle, he directed Sulphur’s offense with a mix of precision and swagger. Cole celebrated big plays with an outstretched arm toward the crowd, acknowledging the community that had grown up with him from youth leagues to Friday night lights. Together, Cole and Mobly helped power the Bulldogs to one of the program’s most memorable seasons.

Their efforts were rewarded when both were named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All State Football team for 2025, an honor that placed them among the state’s elite. The recognition affirmed what Sulphur fans already knew: these two had become standard-bearers for Bulldog football. Yet even as their individual achievements drew headlines, they never lost sight of the brothers lining up beside them.

That same spirit carried over to the wrestling room, where Sulphur’s grapplers quietly built something special. Balancing early-morning weigh-ins, late practices, and a demanding class load, the Bulldogs wrestling team attacked homework with the same intensity they brought to the mat. Their reward came not from a final takedown but from a report from the OSSAA: Sulphur had captured the 2025–2026 Academic State Championship. Posed together in their team sweatshirts, they represented a school where excellence wears many uniforms—and where champions are measured by heart, hustle, and GPA as much as by scores on a scoreboard.
