Owen Wofford, a junior at Ada High School, has been deeply rooted in sports from a young age. “I’ve been playing basketball ever since I could remember, and I would do it for the rest of my life,” he shares. Despite his love for basketball, he’s made a significant impact on the football field as well.
Owen’s biggest inspiration comes from his mom. “Growing up watching it, my biggest influence is my mom, hearing all of the accomplishments she had and how good she was,” he says, reflecting on her legacy.
This season, Owen highlights the strong bond within his team. “I think the team’s chemistry is great this season. We are all pretty close and can laugh and joke around whenever.” His role on the team is clear: “I think my role this season is to be a leader and help my team grow and get better in every way possible.”
Training is an essential part of Owen’s routine. “A typical week of training looks like running, lifting, and working on my game,” he explains. But his journey hasn’t been without challenges. “My most challenging moment in my career is when I tore my ACL at the start of the year before football started and caused me to sit out my whole sophomore year. I overcame it by working hard to get my leg as strong as it used to be with physical therapy and having good spirits.”
One of his most memorable moments came from his team’s perseverance last season. “When my team won five straight to get a shot to go to state, it was a great thing to watch, but unfortunately, we didn’t get that last dub.”
Looking ahead, Owen aspires to play college sports. “I see myself playing college sports, basketball or football, and living a happy life doing what I love,” he shares. For younger players, his advice is simple: “Work hard, stay focused, and never lose sight of your goal.”
Owen thanks “all my coaches, friends, and family” for their unwavering support, and he remains proud of accomplishments like “winning the district championship in football so far.”
