SASAKWA VIKINGS

COACH: Chris Jones

Record: 21-5

OUTLOOK

Coming off a strong 21-5 season, the Sasakwa Vikings look poised to continue their winning ways under head coach Chris Jones, who enters his fifth year leading the program. “We were 21-5 last year and return 9 of our top 10 from last year, led by leading scorer Josh Jones and Micah Wheeler, both All-Conference selections,” said Jones. “We will be bolstered by three transfers in Sherman Mitchell (Tecumseh), Trenton Mack (Varnum), and Boston Lowe (Holdenville) who we expect to make an immediate impact.”

At the forefront of Sasakwa’s success is sophomore Josh Jones (6-1, G/F), a dynamic scorer. Jones averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals per game, earning All-Conference and All-Tournament honors as a freshman. “Josh quickly emerged as the go-to guy for Sasakwa,” said Jones. “He faced multiple box-and-1, face guard, and junk defenses and was still able to put together three 30-point games last season. He shot 41% from 3 and 85% from the free-throw line.”

Junior Micah Wheeler (5-10, G) adds another layer of experience and production after averaging 11 points and 3 steals per game a year ago. “Micah is an All-Conference player who provides energy and leadership on both ends of the floor,” said Jones. Joining them is sophomore forward Nate Read (6-2, F), who averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per game. “Nate had a solid first-year performance with a lot of up-side,” Jones added. “He and Josh have teamed together since elementary, and their chemistry is natural and fluid.”

The Vikings’ depth will be strengthened by junior Darius Henderson (5-9, G), who averaged 9 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals, and junior JoJo Lunn (5-9, F), who brings hustle and toughness to the lineup. Transfers Sherman Mitchell (6-2, G/F), an All-Conference selection at Tecumseh, Trenton Mack (6-1, F), a sharpshooter from Varnum, and Boston Lowe (5-11, G), a savvy floor general from Holdenville, are expected to be immediate contributors.

Adding key depth are Titan Collins (6-1, G/F) and Titus Collins (6-0, F) — brothers known as “quiet assassins” by coach Jones. “They are comfortable not being in the spotlight and just pick up their teammates with energy and support,” he said. “They’re high-character guys who are leaders in whatever situation they’re placed in.”

With talent returning across the board, three impactful transfers, and strong team chemistry, coach Jones believes the Vikings are ready for another standout season.
