BROOKE WHITE EAGLE-TALIHINA
Brook White Eagle’s athletic career started in third grade when a coach approached her and some friends about playing basketball.
“I fell in love with the game right away and have been playing ever since,” said the Talihina junior. “I like basketball because I’ve played it so long and I can just be myself and have fun.”
“She was in sixth grade when I came to Talihina and I could tell then that she had the tools to be a good player,” said her coach, Josh Fields. “She played for me in junior high and when she got to high school, she has played off the bench for us but has played a lot of minutes. Sometimes she’ll end up defending the other team’s best player and does a good job at that. She’s been a big part of us making it to the area tournament the last two years.”
In fact, it was the road to the area tournament this past season that Brooke fondly remembers as one of her highlights.
“I scored 15 points in our regional finals game against Panama that got us to the area tournament and that was certainly one of my best games,” said Brooke.
White Eagle also plays softball though it’s been kind of an on and off activity for her. She has also done track in the past though it appears there won’t be a track team at Talihina this year. So Brooke instead is trying out to be a cheerleader next year with tryouts underway.
“I saw how much fun the cheerleaders and football players had last year when they went to state so I decided I would give it a try.”
In terms of people that have been motivators for her along the way, Brooke cites former coach Kelly Griffith as someone who taught her a lot and her dad as someone that is at all her games and pushes to always be better. Already thinking about next year’s basketball season, Brooke says her goal is to average 20 points a game.
