Kiowa’s Hoff Weil – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Sam Wampler’s Freedom Ford of McAlester

Every athlete has that moment they dream about—stepping back onto the field after a long recovery, hearing the crowd, feeling the game again. For Kiowa High School’s Hoff Weil, that moment became a reality. “My most memorable moment so far is being able to come back and play the sports I love,” he said. “My freshman year, I tore my ACL playing basketball. I had surgery and rehabbed for nine months.”

Now fully recovered, Hoff is back doing what he loves most: playing baseball. “I am the second baseman and the lead-off man,” he said. “My job is to get on base and set up our other guys.” His role is crucial, and he takes pride in being the spark that gets his team going.

Team chemistry is a major part of Kiowa’s success. “Our team chemistry is good. We all play hard and want to win,” Hoff said. Despite a demanding schedule that often leaves little time for practice, the team stays focused. “In season we are busy playing four to five games a week. We hope to get one practice weekly.”

Hoff has been around sports his entire life, growing up with a coach for a dad. “I have been playing sports my whole life. My dad is a varsity basketball coach,” he shared. “Growing up as a coach’s son, my love for sports started at a very young age. I have spent countless hours in the gym and at the field.”

Looking ahead, Hoff has big goals. “My goals are to make it to the state tournament,” he said. “My plan is to play college baseball.”

He also values the support of his community. “Community support is very important. It is very fun to have big crowds in the stands.” And when asked what advice he’d give younger athletes, he kept it simple: “Work hard and don’t be nervous to get in the game. Just play!”

When he’s not on the field, Hoff enjoys “friends, poker, and video games.” Through setbacks and success, one thing is clear—Hoff Weil is just getting started.
