Madison Lynch: A Competitor at Heart, On and Off the Mat
Some athletes grow up knowing exactly which sport they want to pursue, but for Madison Lynch, wrestling was a spontaneous decision. “I don’t really have an interesting story on how I started wrestling. I just went home one day and told my parents I wanted to do it, and they looked at me like I was crazy,” she said. That bold choice has led her to become a key member of McAlester High School’s wrestling team, competing in the 105- and 110-pound weight classes.
Lynch, a fierce competitor, attributes much of her success to the people around her. “Ever since I was a little girl, wrestling has been something I loved to watch. My biggest influencers are my parents, coaches, and teammates,” she said. Those influences have helped her develop a strong mindset, which she continues to refine each day. “My hopes and goals for the season are to get better every day and to never let my mindset get too low.”
Her journey in wrestling hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the toughest hurdles she’s faced is managing pre-match nerves. “I think the most challenging thing for me in this sport is letting it get to my head before a match. To overcome this challenge, I take it one match at a time,” she shared. Despite those struggles, she has built confidence and celebrated major victories. “A memorable moment from last season is definitely when I pinned a state placer,” she said.
Beyond wrestling, Lynch stays active in track and has interests outside of sports. “Some of my hobbies and interests outside of sports are shopping, hiking, and traveling,” she said. Looking ahead, she has big plans for her future. “After graduating high school, I plan on attending ECU majoring in elementary education. I plan on trying to continue on with track while I’m in college.”
Through it all, she remains grateful for the support she’s received. “I would like to give a huge thank you to my family and coaches for never giving up on me and for always lifting me up on my bad days.”
