Hartshorne’s Jensen Tom – Sports Manager Spotlight – Presented by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

Jensen Tom takes pride in her Choctaw heritage, which has shaped her into the person she is today. “My grandfather on my dad’s side is full-blood Choctaw,” Jensen shared. “My dad attended Jones Academy, an Indian boarding school, where he met my mom while attending Hartshorne High School. I am the youngest of four siblings. Growing up, my grandpa would share stories about our history with my siblings and cousins. Even at a very young age, I was always eager to learn about my history. I know my ancestors endured many struggles, and I feel that’s where I get a lot of my strength today.”

While Jensen once played softball, she found her passion as a manager for the Hartshorne High School softball and basketball teams. “I played softball for a few years but decided I would enjoy being a manager more than a player,” she said. “This has been such a fun and exciting position to take on. My role is all about supporting my teammates and ensuring everything runs smoothly.”

This strength and pride in her heritage are evident in how Jensen approaches life. “There are definitely values I try to carry with me daily,” she said. “Respect for others, perseverance by never giving up, having balance in life by taking care of my mental and physical well-being, and always putting God first.”

Jensen credits her small-town upbringing and tight-knit community for much of her success. “Our community is unlike any other,” she said. “Hartshorne shows up for its kids. I’ve always felt so supported. My family is also very close—we spend a lot of time together, especially around the dinner table. I also attend Community of Christ Church, which has played a very supportive role in my life.”

Jensen’s dedication extends beyond her work as a manager, emphasizing the importance of Choctaw teachings. “I make my health and well-being a priority,” she said. “It’s just as important to take care of yourself mentally as it is physically. I try to organize my week, so I don’t feel stressed, and I go to the gym regularly, which helps with both.”

As Jensen looks to the future, she’s excited to carry her values and heritage into her next chapter. “I’ve already signed to join the U.S. Air Force on active duty,” she shared. “Planning my future is very important to me. Wherever I go, I’ll always remember my roots and take pride in being Choctaw. I want to make my family proud and strive to choose kindness and goodness wherever I go.”
