STRATFORD BULLDOGS
BOYS
Coach: RAY ARDERY
23-24 Record: 17-10
Head coach Ray Ardery has high hopes for his Stratford Bulldogs this season, looking to balance senior leadership with promising young talent. Reflecting on the team’s goals, coach Ardery said, “We’ve got some good senior leaders along with some young talent and expect to be a pretty competitive bunch. Building our depth throughout the season will be the key to our success come playoff time.”
With a 2023 record of 17-10, Stratford aims to improve on their performance by fostering a dynamic roster that’s ready to meet the demands of a challenging season. At the forefront is returning starter and senior Carson Owens (5-9, Guard, Sr.). Coach Ardery notes, “Carson will be our starting PG for the second straight year. We will lean on his experience and leadership. He will take a jump in scoring this year after graduating our leading scorer.” Owens, who averages 8 points and 3 steals per game, is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding the team.
The Bulldogs also anticipate big contributions from Oliver Smithwick (6-4, Forward, So.), a standout sophomore with “great size and great ball skills,” according to Ardery. Coach is excited about Smithwick’s versatility: “He can play inside or out. He has the chance to be an elite player.” Smithwick, who started the latter half of last season, averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds per game. Adding to the mix is Trevor Wood (6-1, Guard, So.), who had a strong offseason and is set to make an impact as a starter this year. “He’s a very well-rounded player who can do a little bit of everything,” said Ardery. Known for his versatility, Wood is a player to watch as he integrates into the lineup and supports Stratford’s scoring efforts.
Another key player is Michael Clapper (5-11, Guard, Sr.), Stratford’s Unsung Hero, who brings strong defensive instincts and hustle to the court, contributing 4 points and 4 rebounds per game. “Michael does whatever he can to help the team,” said Ardery, emphasizing his rebounding skills and defensive impact. Rounding out the leadership is Lincoln Hall (5-11, Guard, Jr.). “Lincoln is a guy every team needs,” said Ardery. “He’s accountable, chips in every aspect of the game, and gets things done the right way.”
With their blend of experience and emerging talent, the Stratford Bulldogs are ready to make waves this season under coach Ardery’s guidance.
