MCALESTER LADY BUFFALOES

GIRLS

Coach: KOURTNEE BESHEARS

23-24 Record: 14-13

The McAlester Lady Buffs are gearing up for an exciting season, led by Head Coach Kourtnee Beshears, who’s impressed by the team’s dedication and growth mindset. “This group of girls work hard,” Beshears shared. “They are resilient no matter the obstacle. They want to get better every day, and their attitude and work ethic show that.” The Lady Buffs are aiming to improve upon last season’s 14-13 record, displaying a hunger for success and a commitment to strengthening their skills on and off the court.

The team roster is stacked with experienced leaders and promising underclassmen. Senior Avrey Alberson (Sr., PG), who’s been an integral part of the Lady Buffs since her freshman year, returns to lead as point guard with her exceptional basketball IQ and dedication. “Avrey is coachable and always seeks to be better than the day before,” Beshears noted. She also highlights BeauDee Nystrom (Sr., C), another senior and natural leader stating, “BeauDee puts herself last in everything she does. She’s assertive yet caring, holding teammates accountable while being being someone to look up to from the lower-class men.”

Rounding out the senior class are Kaylee Knight (Sr., G) and Shylie Mason (Sr., G), both vital to the team’s success. Knight, known for her humility and encouragement, is described by Beshears as “the kind of player you love having on your team.” Knight consistently goes above and beyond, providing support and positivity to everyone around her.

The Lady Buffs are also bolstered by younger talents who show great potential. Rylan Lesnau (So., SF), a sophomore small forward, has already demonstrated her athleticism and adaptability, stepping up in crucial moments. “She is continually listening to coaching and working to improve her game for the benefit of her teammates,” said Beshears. Sophomore Kambree Zummer (So., PG), a hardworking point guard, is noted as an underclassman to watch for her hustle and tenacity.

With a mix of experienced seniors and rising young players, the McAlester Lady Buffs are set to make an impact this season. Coach Beshears is looking forward to witnessing the growth of her team, both in their game and in character. “I am looking forward to this season with them and to watching their growth on and off the court,” she said, underscoring her belief in the Lady Buffs’ potential and determination. Keep an eye on this resilient group as they represent McAlester with pride and ambition.
