When it comes to dedication and passion for the game, few match the relentless drive of Nolan Stewart, a junior at Stuart High School. “I’ve always been a baller,” Nolan said. “I could dribble between my legs and behind my back before I could get the ball high enough to make a goal.” His love for basketball started at a young age, and he worked tirelessly, practicing for hours every day. By the time he was old enough, Nolan was already playing for the school, league ball, and select basketball teams.
This season, Nolan finds himself in a leadership role, guiding his teammates with unwavering work ethic. “Lead… work, work harder and keep working to help the team the best I can,” he explained. The chemistry among the team is key to their success. “The majority of my teammates play basketball and baseball together. They’re my brothers.”
Nolan’s determination is evident both on and off the court. He recalls a pivotal moment in his career when he became a freshman starter. “I wanted it, but I also knew I had to earn it. I put in extra work and kept working.” That grit has paid off, helping him achieve memorable moments, such as scoring a game-high 32 points and winning the Pitt 8 championship last season. “Winning the Pitt 8 and advancing in playoffs… going to State will always be proud moments.”
As the team continues to strive for success, Nolan’s goal is simple: “Win… it… ALL!” His hopes for the future are equally focused, with aspirations to play college basketball and earn a degree. “I hope to play college ball and get my degree. Or at least be making a good and happy living for myself.”
Off the court, Nolan is an avid hunter, enjoying everything from deer to raccoon hunting and fishing. Still, it’s the support of his community and family that drives him most. “Our community goes above and beyond to support us,” Nolan said. “Whether it’s fundraising or showing their Hornet pride in the stands.” He also credits his dad for being a constant role model, working hard every day and always making time to help him with his game.
