Broken Bow’s Claire Burris – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Evan Smalling State Farm

Claire Burris, a senior at Broken Bow High School, is no stranger to the spotlight, but for her, cheerleading is about much more than the performance. “I have been cheering since seventh grade and have developed a passion for bringing energy and enthusiasm to every game and event,” she said. That passion has driven her to not only excel on the mat but also become a leader for her squad.

What drew Claire to cheerleading was its unique blend of challenge, teamwork, and excitement. “I remember being an elementary student watching cheerleaders performing at games with such enthusiasm and grace, and I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of the electrifying atmosphere,” Claire recalled. Over the years, her coaches and fellow cheerleaders have inspired her to push herself and reach new heights in her sport.

Now, as a senior and co-captain, Claire’s role is all about leadership. “As a senior, I have to lead the team and always encourage us to do the best we can despite difficulty,” she explained. She takes this responsibility seriously, always aiming to foster unity and positive energy within the squad. The team’s chemistry, despite being young this year, is something Claire is proud of. “This season is going to be so special, and I think we are going to surprise everyone with our progress.”

One of Claire’s most memorable moments came last season during the OSSAA Gameday State competition. “I distinctly remember hearing our coach say how proud of us she was and looking around and seeing my team being so tired but feeling so accomplished.”

Looking ahead, Claire plans to major in business administration, hoping to continue her passion for service and public speaking. “I will always have a passion for cheering others on, but my role will shift from wearing a cheer suit on the sidelines to being a cheerleader in my workplace and throughout my life by encouraging and uplifting the people around me.”

Claire’s dedication to her team, her school, and her community is evident in everything she does. “All my accomplishments and glory truly belong to the Lord,” she reflected. “I owe a huge thank you to my parents for always being my biggest fans.”
