In the small, tight-knit community of Rattan, Oklahoma, James Childers has made a significant mark on and off the baseball field. A senior at Rattan High School, James is not just a standout athlete but also a dedicated student and a respected member of his community.

James’s athletic journey began early, and his dedication to the sport of baseball has only grown stronger over the years. He plays shortstop for the Rattan baseball team and also showcases his versatility as a guard on the basketball team. When asked about what motivates him, James simply replied, “Success.”

“My family and my coaches, because they have pushed me to the best I could be,” James says, reflecting on his biggest influences and role models. “Without them I would’ve been nowhere.” This support system has been crucial in his development as both an athlete and an individual. Among his mentors, his agriculture teacher, Scott Storey, stands out significantly. “When my dad passed away, he pushed me to be a better man,” James shared, highlighting the profound impact Storey has had on his life.

James attributes his success in sports to “a lot of hard work and dedication.” This commitment has paid off, culminating in one of the highlights of his career: “Winning the fall and spring back-to-back state championships.”

Influential coaches have also played a pivotal role in James’s journey. He specifically mentions coach Michael Clay and coach Thurman, acknowledging their guidance and support. Reflecting on his high school sports experience, he confidently stated, “I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Beyond the baseball diamond and basketball court, James is involved in various clubs and campus activities, further demonstrating his leadership and commitment to his school. Looking ahead, he plans “to further playing baseball and my academic journey through college,” setting his sights on continued growth and achievement.

For James, representing Rattan High School and his community means everything. “Knowing they have my back, no matter win or lose,” he said.
