Hugo’s Allison Johnson – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Kiamichi Family Medical Center

In her sophomore season at Hugo High School, Allison Johnson is already making a significant impact on the softball field. Known for her outgoing nature and school spirit, Allison’s journey in softball began when she was just a child playing T-ball. “I immediately fell in love with the game,” she said, a passion that has only grown over the years.

Allison’s dedication to the sport was fueled by the stories of her Aunt Shim, who played softball at the University of Oklahoma. “As I got older, I listened to my Aunt Shim’s stories about her playing softball at OU back in her day, and it inspired me to stay with it and strive to be better at the sport,” she said. Alongside her aunt, Allison looks up to softball stars like Jocelyn Alo and Jayda Coleman.

The new season has started positively for the team. “So far, I think the team is coming together better than previous years.” Her role as a lower classman stepping up to be a leader is pivotal. “I prepare for it by just being me each day I go in, being my normal self and others watch and strive off of that energy,” she explained.

Balancing her rigorous training schedule, which includes cheerleading mats in the morning followed by intense softball practices, Allison is committed to both her sports. The challenges she faces, such as the frequent changes in coaching staff and teammates, have only strengthened her resolve. “The rebuild has been difficult, but with the coach we have now, I think once we get it all figured out, we have the potential of being unstoppable.”

Memorable moments on the field are plenty, but the support from the community stands out for her. “The support we got from our community this past season was definitely memorable,” Allison reflected. This support fuels her ambition, both on and off the field. In five years, she hopes to be playing for a top D-I softball program and pursuing a career in sports medicine, with a side interest in real estate.

Her advice to younger players is heartfelt: “Enjoy the game and enjoy the time you have on the field because someday, it’ll all be over. Just do your best every time you step on the field and always have fun.”
